As a way to show our support, boost confidence, and celebrate each squad members achievements parents gather together on a weekend and decorate lockers. It’s a way to encourage our children, create a sense of pride, and make their cheerleading experience more fun and personalized. This small act helps reinforce our encouragement and enthusiasm for our children's activities.

We strongly encourage parents to personalize and decorate their child's locker prior to arriving at school!!!!!

To do so, please purchase foam boards and cut them to fit the locker dimensions. Attach magnets to the back of the foam boards with glue for easy placement. Then, creatively decorate your squad members' lockers, ensuring that the lock pad remains unobstructed.

what if I can't participate

If you are unable to participate in decorating your squad member's locker, please inform the Booster Board members at least one week in advance. This will allow them to decorate your child's locker in your absence.

Locker Decorating FAQs & Best Practices

1. Why do we decorate the cheerleaders' lockers?

Locker decorating is a fun tradition that helps make the locker room feel special and celebrates our cheerleaders throughout the season. The goal isn't perfection! It's simply another way for families to show their support and give each cheerleader a space that feels like their own.

2. Who should make the locker decorations?

That is completely up to your family! There is no right or wrong way to do it.

Some parents surprise their cheerleader and create everything themselves. Some cheerleaders design and decorate their own boards. Other families make it a group project and work on everything together.

Choose whatever works best for your family, your time, and your creativity level!

3. What material works best for the main locker board?

There are several good options:

• Poster board

• Cardboard

• Foam board

• Corrugated plastic board

The biggest consideration is weight. Remember, everything must ultimately be supported by magnets. Lightweight materials are generally easier to hang and keep in place.

Foam board and corrugated board provide more structure, while poster board is lightweight and easy to work with.

4. How do I attach my decorations to the locker?

MAGNETS ONLY!🚨 NO TAPE, ADHESIVE, GLUE, COMMAND STRIPS, CONTACT PAPER OR WALLPAPER MAY BE APPLIED TO THE LOCKERS.

Nothing should be attached directly to the locker except a magnet. This protects the school lockers from damage and residue.

You may use adhesives when constructing your board, such as attaching magnets to the back of the board, but the adhesive itself should never touch the locker.

5. What is the best way to attach magnets to the back of the board?

Don't underestimate how many magnets you may need!

For heavier boards, use strong individual magnets placed around the outside edges and at key points through the center rather than relying on one or two magnets.

Hot glue or a strong adhesive can be used to secure the magnets to the back of your decoration, provided the adhesive never comes into contact with the locker itself.

Before decorating day, test your magnets by holding the finished board vertically on a magnetic surface. If it starts sliding, add more magnets!

Tip: Pay extra attention to the top corners. Strong magnets there help support the weight of the entire board.

6. Should I decorate everything before coming to the school?

Yes, as much as possible!

Decorating day should primarily be about hanging your finished pieces rather than building them at the school.

Have your boards decorated, magnets attached, pieces labeled, and everything ready to hang before you arrive. Bring a few extra magnets and basic supplies for last-minute adjustments.

7. How much should I decorate?

There is no requirement to fill every available space. Some families keep things simple, while others love going all out.

Start with the main locker board and add additional pieces if you'd like. Photos, cheer bows, school colors, the cheerleader's name, graduation year, favorite sayings, and other lightweight decorations can all make the space personal.

Don't compare your locker to someone else's. The purpose is to celebrate your cheerleader, not to have the most elaborate locker.

8. What should I bring on decorating day?

Your finished decorations should be ready to hang, but a small “locker emergency kit” can be helpful.

Consider bringing:

• Extra strong magnets

• Hot glue gun and glue sticks

• Scissors

• Extra embellishments

Most importantly, bring extra magnets! They are usually the item you'll be happiest you have.

9. Should I test everything before decorating day?

Absolutely. Assemble the entire board at home and make sure all decorations are secure.

Then test the board vertically, not just lying flat on a table. A board that looks perfectly secure while flat can behave very differently once gravity gets involved.

This is also a good time to check for anything heavy, loose, or sticking out that could make the board difficult to hang.

10. What's the best advice for a first-time locker-decorating family?

Keep it fun and don't overthink it. Prepare as much as possible ahead of time, keep your decorations relatively lightweight, use plenty of strong magnets, and remember why we're doing it.

Double-Check Your Board Direction! Before attaching anything permanently to your board, hold it up to the locker and confirm which way is UP! Pay special attention to the cutout for the combination lock. We learned this one the hard way. 😊 A quick test-fit before decorating can save you from discovering your masterpiece is upside down on decorating day!

The locker doesn't have to look Pinterest-perfect. Your cheerleader is going to love seeing their name, pictures, colors, and personality represented in a space created especially for them.

If it's touching the locker, it needs to be held there with a magnet. No tape, adhesive, wallpaper, contact paper, or sticky products directly on the lockers.
