January 2026: I have received an EPSRC New Investigator Award for a project at the intersection of numerical linear algebra, rigorous numerical algorithms and computer-assisted mathematical proofs. The award funds a three-year postdoctoral position to work with me in the Scientific Computing and Applications Research Group at the University of Leicester. The official job advert is expected to be published in February-March 2026 and links will be added here; in the meantime, feel free to contact me at bh241(AT)le(DOT)ac(DOT)uk if you are interested.
As part of the grant package, there will also be a PhD position (in the form of a Graduate Teaching Assistant, GTA) to work with me on the same project. This position is funded by the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences (CMS) at the University of Leicester and includes 10% teaching-related responsibilities. Links with further information will be added here.
January 2026: Under the EPSRC DLA scheme, the University of Leicester is offering a fully funded four-year PhD position in numerical linear algebra. Specifically, the project focuses on the absolute value equations--- their theory, algorithms and applications. This is an active and rapidly developing area of research with many open problems. See the following 3D visualisation.

Eligibility: UK students only
Deadline: 6 February 2026
Outstanding undergraduate students from China are encouraged to apply through the China Scholarship Council (CSC) which offers full scholarships for full-time PhD studies at the University of Leicester. The CSC provides each scholarship recipient with a living stipend, while the University of Leicester provides a tuition fee waiver.
The application deadline is typically in December each year. Details of the application process are available here:

If you are a prospective PhD applicant with full sponsorship and a strong background in linear algebra, numerical analysis and scientific computing, you may wish to consult the following page for details of the application process at Leicester: https://le.ac.uk/study/research-degrees/research-subjects/maths
The University has intakes in January, May, July and September each year. International applicants who require a visa should submit their application at least five to six months before the proposed start date.
