Components

The research project consists of five components or work packages (WP's), four of which are doctoral projects. The above schema represents the overarching questions addressed by each WP: those along the horizontal axis are concerned with the alternation between monoclausal and biclausal constructions, and those along the vertical axis are concerned with the role that encoding and inference play in clause combining constructions.

WP1: Clause combining without clause linkage markers: a case study of Australian languages

WP2: Projecting turn extension: the temporality of clause-combining practices

WP3: Complementation constructions with (it) be/(there) be/have + NP and their appositional variants: from Old to Middle English

WP4: A diachronic approach to que-deletion in Spanish

WP5: Cleft and simple specificational constructions in English and French
