Anti Marijuana 2020

Victory in stopping Milpitas cannabis tax measure

Even though Milpitas council members approved to withdraw the discussion and vote on cannabis tax measure, originally item 11, on the council member meeting agenda of May 5th, they called a special meeting unexpectedly to discuss and vote on the same matter last night. They ended up voting 4:1 rejecting the cannabis tax measure in the 5.5-hour meeting! People in Milpitas have spoken loud and clear again against marijuana, even under Covid-19 pandemic and shelter in place order. Together, we will rise high and strong. THANK YOU MILPITANS and all supporting friends. Let's continue to work together to safeguard our city.

This is a great victory reflecting that people’s tenacious opposition of marijuana does bear fruit!

If approved, this cannabis tax measure will be put on the November ballot for citizens to vote on. Then if approved by voters in November, it will inevitably give rise to the issue of legalization of recreational marijuana in Milpitas again. Originally, this case should have been over on the 5th as above-mentioned. But seemingly the fans of the marijuana side kept pushing for a council meeting and vote on this measure and even threatened to sue, based on Brown’s Act violation, if the city refused to do so. Even though the city did not really violate such law, they still called a special meeting for a vote on the cannabis tax measure as described above.

Frank Lee, Bay Area Director of California Coalition against Drugs (加州反毒聯盟灣區總監李少敏) stated, “The number of opposition letter doubled that of May 5th meeting and significantly outnumbered the number of letters for the cannabis tax measure, reflecting citizens’ determination against marijuana. This is a great victory for Milpitas and all anti-drug people! Milpitas citizens have spoken and repeatedly! Let us keep up the good work against drugs!”

Better Milpitas (更好苖必達) stated, “We are grateful to Milpitas citizens, allies, media friends, and everybody who was with us in this pivotal fight against marijuana. We still need to stay alert to protect our city. Please give us your email address at www.bettermilpitas.org so that you can be on our email list for further communication when needed for the betterment of our society.”

Various heavy-weight California anti-drug leaders joined us in this fight especially John Lovell, Legislative Director of California Narcotic Officers’ Association (加州反毒警官協會立法總監), Bishop Ron Allen, President of Faith Based Coalition against Drugs (信徒反毒聯盟會長), and Roger Morgan, President of Take Back America (重奪美國創辦人及主席).

Council Member Anthony Phan has long been pushing for marijuana in the city and was the lone vote for the cannabis tax measure. According to public information, he used to be the principal of a marijuana consulting company. Last night, he even criticized the anti-marijuana citizens while insisting for pot!

For the upcoming November election, we strongly urge Milpitas voters to scrutinize the candidates for their position on legalization of marijuana. Do not vote for anybody who is for marijuana. Electing the right council members is vital for the future of Milpitas especially for the fight against drugs/cannabis.
