COMING EVENTS: Conversation Circles - English Learning Groups
Scroll down to learn more about Bethany: what we value, what we believe and how we support a variety of organizations in Hamilton and beyond.
At Bethany, we celebrate the Lord's Supper (communion) every week. Taking time to remember Jesus' death and resurrection reorients us to His truth, calls us to repentance and reminds us of the amazing miracle and privilege of the new and abundant life that He offers.
Sunday mornings at Bethany bring a variety of voices. Different speakers share God’s Word, with sermon topics provided by our Ministry Committee. Most of our speakers are part of our church family, while others come from other congregations. We typically go through a sermon series on either a book of the Bible or a biblical theme. Series usually last several weeks, helping us grow together in understanding and faith. Click here to hear recent messages preached at Bethany.
At Bethany, we’re a community that cares deeply for one another. A group of elders takes the lead in guiding our church spiritually, working closely with our deacons and others to shape our Sunday services, provide pastoral care, and support the various ministries within our church family. Their heart is to see everyone who walks through our doors feel at home and grow in faith.
Our current elders are Ralph Berry, Jean Cadet, Barry Kirk, Graeme Kirk and Ian Stuart. Our deacons are Alison Berry, Gloria Kidney and Nick King.
Bethany is a beautiful mix of people of different ages, walks of life and cultures. We have families with young children as well as mature believers who have walked with Jesus for many decades. Our community includes people from Chile, China, Colombia, Ecuador, Haiti, Mexico, Myanmar, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Zimbabwe, and beyond. It doesn't matter how old you are, where you come from or where you are headed. You are welcome here!
At Bethany, we celebrate the fact that each individual is equipped to make meaningful contributions to the local church. It is not uncommon to see a variety of people involved in our services and activities. Youth and children often participate by leading worship, reading scripture or distributing the bread and wine for communion.
Bethany has valued ministry to children and youth for many decades. Through Sunday School, Kids Club, Tribe Junior Youth and BLS Senior Youth, we help our young people grow in their relationship with Jesus. Children and youth from Bethany, other local churches and the community participate in our youth programs. An important part of youth ministry at Bethany is our Camp Scholarship program. Every year, we send kids to summer camp where they deepen their faith, encounter God and have a blast!

We believe the Bible is God’s inspired, authoritative, and sufficient Word. It is the final authority for doctrine and daily living. Jesus affirmed the Scriptures, saying, "It is they that bear witness to me" in John 5:39. The Bible teaches, corrects, and equips believers for a godly life. It was written by men under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, ensuring its divine truthfulness and reliability.
Key Scriptures: 2 Timothy 3:16-17, John 5:39, 2 Peter 1:20-21, Isaiah 40:6-8, Isaiah 55:10-11
We believe in one true God, revealed as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is eternal, all-powerful, and sovereign. Jesus Christ, God the Son, is fully divine and fully human, sent to redeem humanity. The Holy Spirit indwells believers, convicting, guiding, and empowering them for righteous living and spiritual growth.
Key Scriptures: Mark 12:29-30, John 10:30, John 16:8-15, 1 John 4:2, 15
We believe all people have sinned and are separated from God. Salvation is found only through faith in Jesus Christ, who died and rose again for the forgiveness of sins. Those who trust in Him are made right with God and enjoy eternal life, while those who reject Him face eternal separation from God. This salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.
Key Scriptures: Romans 3:23, Romans 5:1-11, Galatians 2:15-21, 2 Corinthians 5:16-21, 1 Peter 2:24-25, Acts 20:21
We believe in the personal, visible return of Jesus Christ. His coming will fulfill God’s promises, bring final judgment, and establish His eternal kingdom. Believers eagerly anticipate His return, striving for holiness and sharing the Gospel as we await the day of His glory.
Key Scriptures: John 14:1-3, Matthew 24, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18, Titus 2:11-13, 2 Peter 3:1-13, Revelation 21:1-4
We believe the Church is the body of Christ and is made up of all believers worldwide. As members of Christ’s body, we are called to love, unity, and spiritual growth. The local church is an essential expression of this body, where believers gather for worship, teaching, fellowship, and service. The Church exists to glorify God and make disciples.
Key Scriptures: Ephesians 4:1-6, 1 Corinthians 12:12-13, Matthew 18:18-20, Philippians 2:1-5
We observe two biblical ordinances: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Baptism is an outward sign of an inward reality, symbolizing a believer’s faith in Christ and new life in Him. We practise believer’s baptism by immersion, as practised in the New Testament. The Lord’s Supper is observed weekly as a remembrance of Christ’s death and resurrection and a proclamation of His return.
Key Scriptures: Matthew 28:19-20, Acts 2:38-41, Romans 6:3-4, 1 Corinthians 11:23-29, Luke 22:14-20
We believe God has given every believer spiritual gifts to serve the Church. These gifts should be exercised in love and humility to strengthen the body. While some gifts are more visible, all are valuable. Leaders are called to equip others for ministry, and the church is to encourage every member in their spiritual growth.
Key Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 12:4-31, Romans 12:3-8, Ephesians 4:11-16, 1 Corinthians 13
We follow the biblical model of leadership, which includes elders and deacons. Elders are responsible for spiritual oversight, teaching, and shepherding the flock. They must meet biblical qualifications and be recognized by the church. Deacons assist the elders by serving in practical ministry roles, ensuring the church functions effectively. Both roles require godly character and a commitment to service.
Key Scriptures: Acts 14:23, 1 Timothy 3:1-13, 1 Peter 5:1-3, Titus 1:5-9, Philippians 1:1, Acts 6:1-6, Romans 16:1
We believe that God established the family as the basic unit of society. Marriage is a sacred covenant between a man and a woman, and the foundation of a healthy family and society.
Key Scriptures: Ephesians 3:14-15, Genesis 2:24, Matthew 19:4-6
