The South Peninsula Region with its diverse and complex communities represents in many ways the realities of the HAVES and HAVE NOT'S. Truly the "TALE OF TWO CITIES."
This is evident in a simple 20-minute (15km)journey from the communities of CONSTANTIA to CAPRICORN.
One can easily see the impact and effects of institutionalized spatial segregation under the Apartheid system. Marginalized communities came about as a direct result of the Group Areas Act of 1950 forcibly moving and displacing communities of people thereby bringing about adverse social and economic challenges which to this day, plague our communities.
It's for these reasons that in some small way with your support we can bring about a meaningful and sustainable change in the lives of our young people.
In under-resourced environments, there will always be a lack of basic needs and little or no access to development processes. In our context, sports specifically cricket, can be seen as an activity reserved for only the rich. Therefore the perception exists that our children will not thrive in the beautiful game of cricket.
When speaking about grassroots development there are currently huge infrastructural gaps in our poorer communities, so playing on lush green grassy fields is not a reality in our spaces.
Playing within the small, bustling, sometimes dangerous, and dusty streets of the Cape Flats is the closest many get to a game of cricket.
Our approach and motive when it comes to impact or measuring impact is simple.
As vital as it is, that we reach the vast amount of young people who require intervention and support on their life's journey, we are purposeful in our focus on building a deep relationship taking the time to truly get to know the child both from an external and internal perspective.
The slogan "One Day, One Child, One Moment" embodies our approach.
It's a NAMES vs NUMBERS stance, we prefer to be in a position to know the individual life story and personal circumstances of all the young people we impact than simply say we have reached 1000 children.
