Our Mission involves four pillars all involving the principle of Mentorship
The individual CHILD.
The COACH developing our young people .
The SCHOOL and its cricket programme.
The COMMUNITY within which our young people exists.
The key to our interventions is healthy and sustainable relationships.
Our guiding values and principles are.
We mentor youth from the ages 8 to 18 years old(currently 40 in total)from grade 3 to matric who start their school career at Heathfield Primary and then progress to various feeder high schools.
These young men show a definite gift with regard to their sporting abilities.
We offer practical holistic support during the formative years and walk alongside parents and guardians creating opportunities for them to grow into the potential that lies within them.
The support extends but is not limited to the following:
Stationery and Uniform
Sports and Extra-mural activity resources and coaching, with emphasis on cricket.
Transport to and from school sports events.
Assistance with scholarship and high-school applications.
Guidance and counseling
Tutoring
Programme Objectives:
Support a minimum of 40 boys from Grade 3-Matric ideally 2 per grade(Currently on 40 Boys).
As all our young people on the mentorship programme, currently come from Heathfield Primary it makes logical sense that we would extend our support within the school's sporting programme.
Heathfield Primary was established in 1971 as a direct result of the Group Areas Act.
“In January 1971, 420 non-white children and teachers were moved from Central Primary, two kilometres away in the former ‘white Diep River’ to the current site,” he said.“Our school is situated in the affluent community of Punts Estate in Heathfield but serves the impoverished communities of Lavender Hill, Hill View, Seawinds, Capricorn Park, Westlake, Gugulethu, Philippi, Khayelitsha, Mocke Road(Die Gatjie), a local informal settlement, and many other surrounding areas where poverty and unemployment are rife.“We are a commuter school as most of our learners are bused in, and very few of our learners are from the immediate surrounding communities. Many of our parents invest their money in better safer education outside the areas they commute from due to gangsterism and daily shootings and violence.” Quote from Southern Mail Article of the 17th November 2021 "Heathfield Primary celebrates 50th anniversary"
Over the last 12 years, the cricket programme managed and coached at Heathfield Primary by Roger has grown from strength to strength.
The BPSA support program thus far has been the development and coaching of the school teams, which includes girls as well as match day coaching, umpiring and transporting children to their homes after matches.
