About

Since 2008 we've been co-organizing the international seminar for students from three universities in three countries. The  seminar, offered to students at STU as an extracurricular activity, deals with advanced topics regarding primarily cellular wireless networks. Over the years, interesting research topics on 3G, 4G, and later 5G and beyond, as well as IoT networking trends, satellite communications, advanced cloud techniques, along with practical information on the challenges of carrier-grade network deployment were brought to students by established professionals from academia and industry. Our primary partners are the Institute of Telecommunications at the Vienna University of Technology (TUW) in Austria and Center of Sensor, Information and Communication Systems at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication, Brno University of Technology (VUT) in Czech Republic.  The informal cooperation between three main organizers - STU, TUW and VUT has been formalized in 2020 by signing a trilateral memorandum of understanding for the future support of joint educational and research activities.

• Abstract: In contrary to theoretical or stochastic channel models that emulate the “averaged” channel in a certain type of use case, the realistic channel models generate site-specific channel information “right here right now”, and therefore, can support high-quality network planning, advanced communication systems design, radar detection, and high-precision positioning. This presentation gives a glance at the propagation and wireless channel modeling for railway communications from 2G (GSM-R) to 5G and even future 6G from sub-6 GHz to millimeter-wave and terahertz bands, with special focus on realistic channel modeling technique, high-performance ray-tracing platform – CloudRT (http://raytracer.cloud/) and its applications.

• R&D Projects for Space Application

• Abstract: 

• In the first part of the lecture, we will answer the question of the purpose of using space technologies. We will elaborate on the motivation for the creation of various space missions. The lecturer will briefly explain how cooperation between the European Space Agency and the space industry / academic institutions and national agencies works.

• In the second part of the lecture, we will look at how a space mission is prepared and then how satellites are designed in terms of individual sub-systems. We will take a closer look at how to develop and build a satellite structure so that the satellite can survive the launch on a rocket carrier and its stay in orbit.

• The entire lecture will be conducted in an interactive format with students, where the lecturer will provide practical examples that arose during his work on more than 7 different space missions.
