ABOUT
Hello! I'm a Lecturer in Linguistics at the University of York in the Department of Language and Linguistic Science and part of Forensic Speech Services at York. My research interests are across forensic speech science, discourse-pragmatic variation and sociophonetics.
At present, my work focuses on explainable (socio)phonetic methods in deepfake audio authentication. I am also investigating the way generative AI technology generally treats dialect variation.
My UKRI AHRC funded PhD project focused on the phonetic variation of discourse-pragmatic variables (e.g. like, yeah, just) with a view to aid forensic voice comparison. My supervisors were Paul Foulkes and Vincent Hughes.
If I'm not linguist-ing I'll probably be found listening to a record and eating marmalade sandwiches like a budget Yorkshire Paddington.
