Website

Aside from our Issuu, which we update with each issue, Roar only went online during COVID as a way to stay alive. Other than uploading the exact same articles we put in print, we don't really use our website for much else because our school also has its online paper, Denebola. Our current ecosystem is dependent on us somewhat staying in our own lanes and respecting each other's interests.

It's ok, we really love our physical paper.

But this is somewhat of a pessimistic section, because

We actually really dislike our website

etc.

But we're in a weird spot. As a print newspaper, 99% of our time and effort is directed toward the print issue, so there is very little time left to maintaining an equally good online presence (other than social media), especially given the fact that we wanna respect the ecosystem. However, our website was so bad that we really wanted to do something about it.

So we tried

I had contacted Leah, one of our grade's best computer science/tech specialists, and she agreed to help us beautify our website!

We organized our first meeting and decided that we wanted to prioritize the following:

Leah Meeting notes 8/13/23

It took some time because we all got caught up in college applications (Go Leah! UChicago '28!) but we got the mock-up for the website, AND IT WAS SO SO BEAUTIUFUL. We loved it so much — it was pretty much everything we wanted.

But then everything happened.

So we never ended up fixing the website; however, I will say, I'm really glad that we made it this far. I hope that the new senior staff will take where we left off and turn Roar's online presence into an entity just as excellent as our print.
