There are many local ponds, lakes, rivers, and streams in the Greater Portland Area that provide an excellent setting for learning about the many organisms that thrive there. We'll travel to these destinations to catch fish, salamanders, turtles, frogs, toads, snakes, bugs, etc. and study them up close. An emphasis on catch-and release of all animals is encouraged throughout the week, but we do provide temporary enclosures while on our “hunt” for these critters. We explore Shaw Park along the upper Presumpscot River in the Gorham and Windham area where our groups can swim and snorkel the river as well as explore the huge sand pit and area ponds. We also visit Sebago Lake State Park, Dundee Park, and Douglass Brook in Gorham. Many opportunities to fish and swim at every location!
*All Campers are reminded to come to camp with bathing suits on as there are not always changing rooms available at some of our destinations like Shaw Park
**Campers are required to keep shoes on at all times when near ponds and on nature hikes.
***There is a snack shack at Sebago Lake State Park and we do allow our group to stop there at the end of the day so please feel free to send them with a little money if you like.
