Through a unique, one-week field experience at CMU’s Beaver Island Biological Station, teachers participants will discover strategies for implementing the Next Generation Science Standards and Common Core Literacy Standards through place-based learning.
Designed for pairs of educators based in the same school or district, this workshop will immerse science and literacy teachers in a number of inquiry-based experiences related to the study of ecosystems on the island as well as strategies for integrating reading, writing, and critical thinking into the science and English Language Arts curriculum.
With a variety of field and classroom based experiences, participants will gain first-hand knowledge about how to create inquiry-based activities, all while building students’ disciplinary and digital literacies.
