About the CRE[AT]E Challenge

The Beaver Works CRE[AT]E Challenge is a community-driven, project-based engineering design course from MIT.

High school students work in teams with local people with disability-related challenges to prototype solutions together, while being supported by Beaver Works staff and remote mentors.

Impact

For student teams:

“Participating in the CRE[AT]E Challenge has been an opportunity of a lifetime.”

“I learned so much in such a short period of time and this has been one of the most transformational experiences I’ve ever had.”

“The experience in the Challenge was amazing… This feels like my first step in the multitude of strides I hope to take to make an impact…”

For co-designers with disabilities:

Levi, a kid who can only control one hand, can play his favorite video game!

Izzy, a girl with extremely low grip strength, can open doors and jars, and participate in the school's tug-of war!

Skylar, a high school student with low vision, can navigate the halls of her school by herself!

Since 2022, 60 student teams have completed the CRE[AT]E Challenge, and nearly all have delivered working prototypes to their co-designers at the end.
