Program works with industry and community to maximize student engagement and employment. Industry has a clear voice in program direction.
Cambridge High School's Law and Public Safety Programs Advisory Committee is a dynamic and engaged group of professionals who help guide and support the school's law and public safety curriculum. This committee is dedicated to ensuring that the program reflects the diversity of the student body, aligns with industry standards, and fosters meaningful student involvement in activities like SkillsUSA.
1. Well-Represented with Community, Industry, and School Diversity
The advisory committee is intentionally composed of members who represent a wide array of backgrounds, expertise, and perspectives. This diversity ensures that the program is relevant to the varied interests and needs of Cambridge High School's student body. Members of the committee include:
Community Representatives: Local government officials, community leaders, and members of community organizations with a vested interest in law, public safety, and youth development.
Industry Professionals: Law enforcement officers, public safety experts, legal professionals, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel, who provide students with insight into the latest industry trends and practices.
Diverse Perspectives: The committee also ensures representation from underrepresented groups within the law and public safety fields to reflect the diversity of the school community, ensuring that all students feel seen and included.
This broad representation helps create a program that resonates with students from all backgrounds, preparing them for careers in law and public safety while promoting inclusivity.
2. Engagement with Students Through SkillsUSA and Similar Activities
The advisory committee is highly engaged with students in the Law and Public Safety Programs, particularly through extracurricular activities like SkillsUSA. SkillsUSA offers students an opportunity to develop real-world skills in leadership, teamwork, and technical competencies, while participating in competitions and community service projects.
Committee members actively work with students to:
Mentor and guide students through SkillsUSA activities, offering practical advice and sharing their expertise.
Facilitate workshops and training sessions that prepare students for competitions, where they can showcase their skills in public speaking, criminal justice scenarios, and other areas related to law and public safety.
Support students’ career development by providing networking opportunities with industry professionals and arranging internship experiences or job shadowing within the field.
Through these hands-on activities, committee members ensure that students gain valuable experience, build their resumes, and establish professional relationships that can aid them in their future careers.
3. Active Involvement with SkillsUSA and Other Program Activities
The advisory committee plays a vital role in the success of Cambridge High School’s law and public safety programs, particularly by being deeply involved in SkillsUSA and similar activities. Their involvement includes:
Preparing for Competitions: Committee members collaborate with teachers and students to prepare for local, regional, and state SkillsUSA competitions. They provide guidance on the technical and professional aspects of the events, ensuring that students are well-prepared and confident.
Judging Competitions: Committee members participate as judges for SkillsUSA competitions, assessing students’ skills and providing constructive feedback. This role helps maintain high standards of excellence and ensures that students' performances are critiqued by professionals in the field.
Community Service Projects: The committee assists in organizing and supporting community service projects that align with law and public safety, such as organizing safety awareness campaigns, working with local law enforcement agencies, or hosting events that teach the public about crime prevention or legal rights.
Fundraising: Committee members are also instrumental in fundraising efforts that support the program, such as organizing charity events, securing sponsorships for competitions, or raising funds for scholarships and other student opportunities.
Through these various activities, the committee strengthens the connection between the school, local community, and the broader law and public safety industry. Their active participation not only enhances the student experience but also helps ensure the long-term success and growth of the program.

1. Program Promotion Within the Community
To effectively promote the Law and Public Safety program within the community, Cambridge's comprehensive public relations plan includes the following strategies:
Social Media and Website Presence: Regularly update the school's website and social media pages (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn) with highlights about the program, student achievements, and events. This can include features on student internships, guest speakers from the industry, and program accomplishments.
Press Releases and Newspaper Articles: Prepare and distribute press releases to local newspapers and media outlets, celebrating student success, partnership with local law enforcement, and community projects. This can be done on a quarterly basis to maintain visibility.
Community Engagement Events: Organize open houses, career fairs, and law enforcement demonstration days where students can showcase what they’ve learned. Invite local residents, government officials, and industry leaders to attend. This builds visibility and connects the program with the broader community.
Partnerships with Local Organizations: Collaborate with local law enforcement agencies, fire departments, and public safety organizations. These agencies can provide support for the program through internships, guest lectures, and joint community service projects.
By keeping the community informed and engaged and providing pathways for industry professionals to actively participate, the program can thrive, and students will be better prepared for careers in law and public safety.
The Canton Police Department would like to take a moment to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the SkillsUSA students from Cambridge High School in Milton, GA.
On January 9th, these dedicated students hosted a wonderful luncheon for our officers in honor of Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. SkillsUSA is a national organization that helps students develop skills in leadership, teamwork, and career readiness, preparing them for success in their chosen fields.
We are truly grateful for the generosity and thoughtfulness shown by the Cambridge High School SkillsUSA chapter. Their professionalism and commitment to community service reflect the values instilled at their school. Cambridge High School should be proud of the exceptional students who represent their institution with such integrity.
Thank you again to the students of SkillsUSA for this meaningful gesture!
