Law and Public Safety Pathway
The Cambridge High Schools Law and Public Safety Program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in the fields of law, public safety, and related disciplines. This program systematically aligns its curriculum with clear educational goals, ensuring that students acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for success in various career paths, including law enforcement, Criminal Investigations, and Forensic Science.
Career, Technical and Agricultural Education programs and pathways allow students to apply mathematics, science, and communication competencies in laboratory and occupational settings that develop specific technical skills applicable in broad concentration areas. Curriculum incorporates Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) in all content areas.
Career, Technical and Agricultural Education at Fulton County Schools aims to engage students in cutting-edge, grade-appropriate career exploration and preparation opportunities that set them up to excel in postsecondary education and productive careers.

Career Technical Education Extended Day and Extended Year Grants
CTE Extended Day grant funds are allocated to school systems to compensate teachers conducting CTE cocurricular activities after regular school hours. Activities include advising or leading a Career Technical Student Organization or conducting Work-Based Learning activities. CTE Extended Year grant funds are allocated to compensate teachers for CTE summer activities, such as work-site development and teaching CTE summer courses.
Each teacher who receives CTE Extended Day funding must complete a Program of Work (POW) that outlines the number and types of activities planned for the upcoming year. They then submit monthly and annual reports that track activity completion to CTE directors. While these activity-based metrics and tools are similar to those utilized by Agriculture Extended Day, GaDOE has additional staff for its Agricultural Education program; as such, the state monitors the program more closely than CTE.
Cambridge High School Law and Public Safety Instructors Program of work
The appropriate student/instructor ratio for teaching occupational skills, particularly in programs like Law and Public Safety, typically ranges from 10:1 to 15:1. Cambridge High School ratio is currently in the 17:1 range and includes Para Professionals and CTI Corodinators assisting sudents with 504 plans and students with Individual Educational Plans.
This ratio allows for:
Individualized Attention: Instructors can provide personalized support and mentorship, essential for skill development in complex subjects like law and public safety.
Hands-On Learning: Smaller class sizes facilitate more effective hands-on training and simulations, enabling students to practice skills in a controlled environment.
Effective Assessment: Instructors can more readily assess student progress and provide timely feedback, which is crucial for mastering occupational skills.
Enhanced Interaction: A lower ratio promotes greater interaction and engagement among students, fostering collaboration and discussion, which are vital in fields that require teamwork and communication.
Maintaining this ratio helps ensure that students receive a quality education that prepares them effectively for their future careers.
Cambridge High School effectively markets its CTAE programs by creating engaging and informative experiences for prospective students, particularly during middle school visits. As 8th graders tour the building, we utilize upper-level students to stand outside our program rooms, providing a brief, one-minute pitch about the Law and Public Safety program. This peer-led approach allows the students to share their personal experiences, highlight the skills and opportunities available, and answer any questions that might arise, all while showcasing our vibrant learning environment. By leveraging the enthusiasm and insights of our current students, we aim to inspire and inform the younger students about the exciting pathways our CTAE programs offer, ensuring they leave with a positive impression of what Cambridge has to offer.
Our marketing plan to reach outside of our school by collaborating with the Milton Police Department and the Cadet program focuses on creating impactful partnerships that enhance visibility and engagement within the community. Here’s how we plan to implement this:
Joint Community Events: We will organize community events, such as public safety workshops, demonstrations, and open houses in collaboration with the Milton Police Department. These events will showcase the Cadet program, offering hands-on experiences that highlight career opportunities in law enforcement and public safety.
Cadet Program Participation: Students from our Law and Public Safety program will be encouraged to participate in the Cadet program, allowing them to gain real-world experience and build relationships with local law enforcement. Their participation can also serve as a promotional tool, as they can share their experiences and successes through social media and school presentations.
Co-branded Marketing Materials: We will create co-branded marketing materials that feature both the Law and Public Safety program and the Milton Police Department. This can include flyers, brochures, and social media graphics that outline the benefits of the Cadet program and highlight joint events.
Through these collaborative efforts with the Milton Police Department and the Cadet program, we aim to strengthen our marketing outreach, foster community engagement, and attract prospective students to our Law and Public Safety program.
At Cambridge High School, our Law and Public Safety program works closely with the counseling department at our home school and feeder schools to ensure that students are well-informed about program offerings and opportunities. Counselors play a crucial role in guiding students through their academic and career pathways, and we engage them through regular meetings to discuss program updates, course prerequisites, and recruitment strategies. By providing counselors with marketing materials and program descriptions, we ensure they can effectively communicate the benefits of our program to prospective students.
Our advisory committee is composed of a diverse group of stakeholders, including local law enforcement representatives, legal professionals, educators, and community members. This committee meets regularly to provide insights on curriculum relevance, industry trends, and program improvements. Their expertise helps us maintain a curriculum that meets both educational standards and the needs of the community.
The chain of command for our Law and Public Safety instructors is clearly defined to streamline communication and address any academic or operational issues effectively.
Academic Issues: Instructors first address concerns with the program coordinator. If unresolved, the issue escalates to the department head.
Scheduling Issues: Scheduling conflicts or course-related inquiries are handled by the program coordinator, who works directly with the school’s scheduling office to find solutions.
SkillsUSA Approvals: For SkillsUSA participation and approvals, instructors consult the program coordinator, who coordinates with the appropriate district-level administration to facilitate participation and ensure compliance with all necessary guidelines.
Cambridge Law and Public Safety Progrogram has established a comprehensive plan to maintain and replace consumables, course content, equipment, and instructional support materials to ensure a high-quality educational experience. By implementing these plans, we aim to provide students with an engaging and relevant learning environment that meets their educational needs and prepares them for successful careers in law and public safety.
Here’s a brief overview of these plans:
Regular Inventory Assessments: We conduct periodic inventory checks to evaluate the condition and availability of consumables and instructional materials. This helps us identify items that need replenishment or replacement.
Budget Allocation: A portion of our budget is specifically earmarked for the maintenance and replacement of essential materials, ensuring we have the necessary resources to keep the program current and effective.
Equipment Maintenance: For any physical equipment used in the program (like simulation tools or technology), we have a maintenance schedule that includes routine checks and servicing to prolong lifespan and functionality.
Professional Development: Staff training is regularly provided to ensure educators are adept in using new technologies and teaching methods, which helps maximize the effectiveness of our instructional materials.
