Research Director

Dr. Connie Barroso (Garcia)

Hi there! I'm Connie Barroso (Garcia is my second last name). I'm an Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology at Texas A&M University. I received my Ph.D. from Florida State University in Developmental Psychology in 2020 and joined Texas A&M in August 2020 as an ACES Fellow and a Visiting Assistant Professor. I am affiliated with the Developmental Sciences program, which is part of the Learning Sciences Division.

In my research, I focus on understanding how individual differences in beliefs, emotions, and attitudes towards math and science can predict both achievement in these subjects and pathways into Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) career fields.

Xiaotong Yi

Howdy! I am Xiaotong (Lucy) Yi. I am a first year Ph.D. student in Educational Psychology with an emphasis in Developmental Sciences. I work with Dr. Barroso researching math anxiety and math mindsets. My research goals focus on fraction learning, autism, and math anxiety. I hope to apply my theories in real teaching environments and work as a faculty member in college in the future. I love playing tennis and traveling in my spare time.

Anjali Chaudhary

Howdy, I am a Ph.D. student in Educational Psychology, with an emphasis on Developmental Sciences. I have been a math educator for more than 15 years, most of which were spent teaching at the high school level and more recently at the community college level. My research interests are in the role of emotion regulation and executive function on math achievement. My advisor is Dr. Idean Ettekal.

Raashi Sangwan

Howdy. I am a Developmental Science Ph.D. student at Texas A&M University. I received my Master’s in Educational Psychology from Kent State University in Ohio in May 2019 and moved to Texas right after. Here at A&M, my advisor is Dr. Jeffrey R. Gagne. I am interested in looking at self-regulation in children who have experienced adverse circumstances.

Howdy! My name is Sofia Arredondo. I am a senior with a concentration in Mathematics for Business and a double minor in Statistics and English Literature. I’m from McAllen, Texas, and I enjoy reading, baking, and hiking in my spare time. I hope to continue my studies and earn my Master’s in Mathematics.

Jae Chu

Howdy! My name is Jae Chu and I’m a sophomore in the class of 2026 studying Psychology. After graduation, I’m hoping to pursue a Ph.D. in psychology and go into research! I want to contribute to my community through growing the body of knowledge as I strive to continue finding more effective ways of learning or better understand how to interact in our changing world. I believe we are never done learning and we shouldn’t be ashamed or afraid of our curiosities!

Genesis Lopez Castro

Hi! My name is Genesis Lopez and I am a sophomore studying Psychology and planning to minor in Neuroscience. I hope to attend grad school after I graduate to hopefully become a child psychologist. Kids are our future and I believe teaching about mental health and understanding child development is vital to nurturing happy and healthy future generations; I could only hope to be a part of this change.

Kathleen Nguyen

Hi! My name is Kathleen Nguyen and I am currently a junior studying psychology pursuing the Pre-Med track. I plan on attending medical school in hopes of becoming a psychiatrist. A fun fact about me is that in high school I got voted as Class Wittiest. Thanks and gig 'em! 

Miko Rutledge

Hi, my name is Miko Rutledge and I'm the loudest and proudest member of the fightin Texas Aggie Class of 2025! I am currently a biology major B.S. with hopes of pursuing medical school after as an interventional cardiologist. A little fun fact about me is that I am so bad at parking cars that title became my senior superlative in high school.

Anika Sikka

Hi everyone! My name is Anika Sikka, and I am from Temple, Texas, a small town about an hour north of Austin. I am currently a senior Psychology major, pursuing the pre-medical track. After completing my undergraduate studies, I plan on attending medical school to become a primary care physician! Gig’em!
