April 2026
We had our end of year BEAM Research Lab Dinner and also had a combined lab bowling celebration with Dr. Zhe Wang's BSID Lab!
March 2026
We had seven undergraduate students present four posters at Texas A&M's Student Research Week in March 2026! Topics included cross-cultural differences in nonsymbolic ratio and math anxiety, spatial skills and statistics achievement, comparing accuracy of different sentiment analysis methods of ironic posts, and sex differences in the anxiety-performance curvilinear relationship!

Isabella also presented a poster analyzing content from the online trends of #girlmath and #boymath at EAHR's GRAB Symposium in Rudder Tower at the end of March!Â
December 2025
We had our end of Fall semester celebration during our last lab meeting in December! A cookie cake with the BEAM Lab logo seemed appropriate after a great semester of data collection and progress on different projects 😀
November 2025
Isabella attended the National Association for Gifted Children's Annual Convention in November 2025, held in Pittsburgh, PA! She presented at the Graduate Student Research Gala and won 1st place for her in-progress research!
August 2025
On behalf of the Child & Adolescent Research Registry, both the BEAM Research Lab and Dr. Zhe Wang's BSID Lab hosted a mathematics themed Storytime + Activity Event at Larry J. Ringer Library! We read "Equal, Shmequal", written by Virginia Kroll, and "I'm Trying to Love Math", written by Bethany Barton, and young children and parent/guardian attendees did some fun math-related activities!
February 2025
Lucy and Isabella both attended the Southwest Educational Research Association (SERA) conference in San Antonio, TX in February 2026! They both presented proposals at the Research in Progress seminar for graduate students, and Isabella won the 2025 SERA Deans Award for Exceptional Graduate Student Research!
Summer 2024
Dr. Barroso, Lucy, and Anjali all attended and presented research at the Mathematics Cognition Learning Society conference Association conference in June 2024, held in Washington, D.C.!Â
Lucy presented a poster on a study she will be conducting examining nonsymbolic ratio processing and symbolic fraction comparisons. Anjali presented findings from a study looking at failure attributions in students over time. Dr. Barroso also presented in a symposium focused on the development of math anxiety in children. Great work everyone!Â
Spring 2024
Dr. Barroso attended and presented research on math interpretation biases in college students at the American Educational Research Association annual meeting in April 2024, held in Philadelphia, PA.Â
Undergraduate lab members Kathleen Nguyen and Jae Chu presented research findings from a meta-analysis on inteligence mindset measurement at Student Research Week 2024 held at Texas A&M!
Fall 2023
Dr. Barroso and her Ph.D. student, Lucy (Xiaotong) Yi, at the November First Friday in Downtown Bryan!
Our last lab meeting of the fall 2023 semester! What a great group to work with this semester.Â
Gig'em!

The Learning Sciences group in front of the fountain behind Rudder Tower at the last faculty meeting of the academic year.Â
Missing a few faculty, but this is still a rare sight!
Fall 2022
Our last lab meeting of the Fall 2022 semester, complete with Starbucks drinks and Dunkin' donuts, and an appearance of the children's book "Peyton and Charlie Challenge Math" written by Dr. Erin Maloney and Dr. Sheri-Lynn Skwarchuk!
Summer 2022
Job Update!
Dr. Barroso will be transitioning from her ACES Fellowship and Visiting Assistant Professor position at Texas A&M into a tenure-track Assistant Professor position, starting September 2022. She will continue her teaching and research in the Department of Educational Psychology.Â
Congratulations Dr. Barroso!
Spring 2022
Two of our undergraduate senior lab members, Eugenia Delgado and Heath Kincaid, presented preliminary findings from our math interpretation bias experimental study on a sample of college students at Texas A&M's Student Research Week.Â
Great work Eugenia and Heath!
