Bees eat nectar and pollen from flowers. Nectar gives them sugar, which gives them the energy to fly, find food, and keep the hive warm. Pollen has proteins, fats, vitamins, and minerals. These help bees grow, especially baby bees (larvae).
In winter, there are not many flowers. Bees eat honey they made from nectar in warmer months. Honey is their main food in winter. It helps them stay strong and warm.
Here is a picture of bees inside their hive during winter, feeding on stored honey to stay warm and survive.Â
