The BDEA Library is a new space created with the students and staff of the school in mind. Within the space, you can find not just books, but also puzzles, games, computers, snacks, and coffee/tea/hot chocolate. The library is intended to be both a welcoming space for students to hang out, and a productive place for whole class or independent learning. Have suggestions for what you would like to see from the space? Stop in and share with Ms. Rickert, or send an email at crickert@bostonpublicschools.org.
Caryn Rickert, Library Teacher (She/They)
Ms. Rickert grew up in Rhode Island with her twin sister and spent a lot of her spare time volunteering at her high school library. She moved to the Boston area for college to become an editor for some big publishing company, but decided she wanted to pursue one of her other two dreams: being a librarian or being a teacher. When they realized they could do both, they began their master’s program at Simmons University to become a Library Teacher, and eventually became an elementary librarian in East Providence, Rhode Island. While they loved teaching little kids, they knew they wanted to be a high school librarian one day. She worked in Cambridge for a year, then switched to BDEA, where she is so lucky to build the first library program for the school community.
They now live north of Boston with their husband and rescue cats, Vampire and Junimo. Visit the library to say hello, talk about books or video games, or to take part in the various events that take place in our space.
