Term 1 will commence with Learning@Home for our Year 11-12 students. It is important to know that while many parents will be at home with their children, the learning opportunities are not classified at homeschooling. The teaching staff of BCC are still directing and supporting your child’s learning. Your children’s teachers will be with you every step of the way and will be in constant contact.
As it always had been, the education of your child continues to be a partnership between child, parent and BCC. Although learning looks different and there will be some classroom experiences students miss out on, there are also experiences they are gaining at home. It is our goal that your child will continue to progress in their growth and strengthen their learning muscles.
Help your child set up a dedicated learning space - comfortable, tidy, quiet, within a public area. eg working around the dining table is a great way for children to collaborate and feel connected.
Supervise your child's learning - help them, check they're engaged and on the right track, monitor their progress.
Recognise that you aren’t your child’s teacher – a parent’s role is to facilitate what the teacher has prepared for your child.
Build a positive learning environment where your child feels supported.
Establish rules and routines: Our staff will provide a schedule for their classes, however, your child would benefit from a family routine.
Start and end each day with a check-in
Encourage healthy eating and drinking plenty of water
Keep the same bedtime routines
Manage screen time - there will be an increase in screen time, especially for Junior School student
Keep students safe online - using platforms appropriately and as they are intended; communicate online respectfully; set-up in a public area.
The College has developed an 'Online Learning Policy' to provide policy and procedure direction to all staff, students, parents and volunteers of the Bundaberg Christian College. The purpose of this policy is to communicate clear expectations and guidelines regarding the use of synchronous and asynchronous Online Learning, in order to ensure it is effective and that all aspects of the BCC Child Protection & Procedures Policy are followed.
A copy of the policy can be viewed at the link below.
Even though your child is at home, they still need to comply with the College’s Student Code of Conduct. Learning@Home will require students to communicate online and work collaboratively in digital spaces. The expectations of your child and their required behavior is the same as face to face learning. Contact your classroom teacher or mentor teacher should you need to ask any questions.
