Appearing at night, it is the appearing night, ...
— Maurice Blanchot, L’Espace littéraire, Part 5, L’Inspiration, Chapter 1, Le dehors, la nuit
The midday in Seorak-dong is dark and deep.
Until now, the Sky Garden had welcomed visitors during its absence in the stillness of midday. And at this time, when life that had burst forth fearfully begins to slowly withdraw itself as we transition from summer to autumn, we now open the space once again in this season.
The night breathes life into the abandoned resort that had been asleep while the sun was up. In a space where no one is staying, the lights turn on and the dead building awakens its eyes. What one finally sees there is night, a real night.
The First Night 〈What Appears at Night, It Is〉
1. Light the building.
2. The artists work from within.
3. Visitors look inside from outside the building.
4. The light of the building brightens the night and rises. The abandoned resort becomes a work of art, facing the outside.
The Second Night <The Appearing Night>
1. The light of the building illuminates the work.
2. The artists take their hands away from the work. Lingers outside the work.
3. Visitors enter the interior of the building.
4. The light of the building enters the night. The work reveals the face he possesses alone, borrowing the power of the night.
While the previous exhibition captured the process of a work revealing cracks in a space and breathing life into them, this exhibition deals with the time of night, allowing the previously dark space to breathe life into the work.
Through two reversed exhibitions, we imagine the two faces of the work that night will present.
The dark and tranquil night of Seorak-dong awakens the artwork.
