"What a lovely night," Grayson thought. He had just gotten married to his beautiful bride. Art Girl was the perfect woman; she could paint better than anyone and she was a model. Grayson was absolutely in love with her and couldn't wait for the honeymoon. Since he had started his new job at Goldman Sachs he was living large. He got the best hotel in the most romantic destination for their retreat. Plus his best friend Sebastian had given them a great deal on the place. Sebastian was a successful rental property manager turned hotel owner. All of his friends said goodbye and wished them well on the vacation.
The flight to their destination felt like an eternity for the newlyweds. They were so excited to finally make it there that they were bursting with excitement. The hotel was magnificent.
"Hey guys, welcome to the hotel," Sebastian said as he greeted them. "I hope you enjoy the stay; I have given you guys the best room in the hotel".
The couple ran to their room in excitement. When they arrived they walked into the marvelous room. It was so big with 15-foot ceilings and expansive floor space. Grayson walked to the balcony. He overlooked the most beautiful beach he had ever seen. When Grayson looked around the room he noticed some strange wires. Upon further investigation, he realized that the wires were connected to some bombs!
Grayson realized Sebastian was trying to kill him because he married Art Girl. Art Girl had rejected Sebastian when he had asked her on a second date over five years ago.
Grayson couldn't believe that Sebastian was still mad about him getting with her. Grayson had asked Sebastian if it was okay if they went on a date and Sebastian had said yes thinking Grayson would have no chance with her. Grayson knew right away that they would need to find a way to escape with no one knowing, but also with some decoy to get Sebastian off their tail. Sebastian would hunt them down if he thought there was any way that they could still be alive.
Grayson looked at the comically large clock on the bomb. The timer read that there were a few hours before detonation. All Grayson could do was laugh. "Sebastian would make a bomb look that ironic," he thought. That gave him enough time to come up with a plan. He quickly ran down to the beach and had his wife help him grab one of the pigs by the water.
"Grayson, why are we grabbing this pig?" Art Girl asked.
"We need to use it as a fake body. If there is not blood and flesh Sebastian will keep hunting us down!"
It was one of the cooked pigs that you will regularly see at a luau. With the pig in hand the couple quickly dropped it off on top of the bed so that the pig would go flying when the bomb went off.
Grayson and Art Girl rushed to an Uber to the airport and took the first plane home. They didn't even stay until the fireworks.
They received news a few days later about the reports of the tragedy that had happened at the hotel. They quickly turned the news on and saw Sebastian on the news.
"We do not know what caused this terrorist attack to happen at the resort. We are deeply saddened by the event that unfolded on our property a few days ago. Security will be beefed up in order to deal with any possible tragedies again."
"Wow, what a bald-faced lie," Grayson said. "He wanted us dead and is now playing the victim."
Author's notes: I decided to take the story of The House of Fire and add my own twist to it. I made it the same basic premise of the king trying to kill Yudhisthira in his palace by setting it on fire. I used a bomb instead of fire for the modern version because an owner wouldn't want to lose his whole hotel. They were being targeted by someone close to them. In the case of the epic, it was the king trying to kill them with the help of the head of security. So I used Sebastian as the person who was trying to kill our heroes. Both heroes found out the plot and were lucky enough to make it out alive. I had Art Girl and Grayson get out by using trickery just as in the epic. They escaped by digging a tunnel and having the poor beggars die to make it look like their bodies. I gave a more gentle reproach with the luau pig instead of some poor souls! I also tried to add some comedic effects by having the situation be a little ridiculous. I try to add absurdity into my writing because I enjoy the feeling it adds to a piece.
