MONOLOGUES & PHYSICAL ACTING WEEKEND WORKSHOPS
Who: Studio Playground
What: Get ready to dive into scenes and monologues with playful and wild abandon! Let’s get out of our heads and into the world of our characters. This class integrates fundamental concepts for script analysis with movement games and physical theater. Over two days, participants explore techniques designed to promote range and flexibility as they apply physical acting exercises to material from contemporary theater, film, and television. Each class begins with a warm-up and includes discussions with applications for audition techniques, character development, and approaching given circumstances in scenes and monologues. The workshop includes individual work, working with a scene partner, and ensemble exercises. There will be a 30-minute break each day for lunch and short breaks as needed.

Who: Liars & Believers
What: The Simple Clown - Essential to Clown are two things: simple and simple. The Clown does ONE thing at a time. Doesn’t plan. Doesn’t look ahead. Physically and mentally. One thing. SIMPLE. And the Clown doesn’t know any better. The Clown comes to each moment with naiveté. Innocence. The Clown is SIMPLE. In this workshop we’ll focus on being entirely in the moment. Our exercises will include easy improvisation, problem solving in Clown logic, exploring the body, and some simple weight sharing. Come prepared to be active and silly. Wear loose clothes and sneakers. If you already own a Clown nose, please bring it. If not, we’ll provide for you. Join us for some fun.

Who: Liars & Believers
What: For Liars and Believers, “Physical Theatre” prioritizes the body over words as a means of expression. This means expanding everyday movements into comic or dramatic effect. This form of play leans into the poetic, rather than the mundane. In this workshop we will use exercises and mini-scenes to practice these elements of performance. The work will include running, rolling around, jumping, throwing, and catching. There will be some low-key weight sharing. Please come prepared to play and sweat. We will work in bare feet.
