EMBODY DIVISING LAB

GUERILLA OPERA WRITER'S COLLECTIVE

• Company: Guerilla Opear

• What: From September through May, Guerilla Opera creates a space for a collective of artists developing texts for musical performances to convene virtually as a supportive creative community. Meeting remotely via Zoom twice a month for nine months, these inclusive and encouraging writing groups will explore developing a completed draft of a script intended to be performed with music. Participants will develop and hone their own unique approaches to writing musical text, have their pieces workshopped by the group through table reads and other formats, and support one another as peers by acting as readers and providing feedback for the work of others. At the end of the Writing Collective program, each participant will have a full reading of their text. NOTE: this program is pay-to-play, costing approximately $1,115

There are no winners or losers — only ten plays selected for their artistic merit and alignment with emBODY’s values, each given everything it needs to be fully realized in performance. The emBODY Festival is the culminating event of the company’s season — a celebration of new work, new voices, and the specific kind of storytelling that happens when a community of artists is given real production support and a real audience. We do not produce readings. We produce plays.

This is not a competition. It is a curation of new cross-disciplinary work from Greater Boston artists who are ready to make something they couldn’t make alone. The Performance Lab brings together dancers, musicians, actors, and visual artists in collaborative pairs and groups to develop original work with emBODY’s full support. Every accepted collaboration is a work in progress — the festival is a development showing, not a world premiere. What we’re celebrating is the process and the potential, not the polish.

BPT NEW PLAY INCUBATOR

• Company: Boston Playwrights' Theatre

• What: The New Play Incubator is designed to lower barriers for the full production of new plays. Each year, BPT reserves 8-12 weeks of time on the Snodgrass Stage for Incubator productions. Each project receives a minimum of two weeks to a maximum of five weeks, depending on the needs of the project. New plays of all types are considered. Playwrights must be present and involved in the project, and projects must have a producing team identified at the time of application, with a priority given for New England-based producing teams. A producing team can take many forms, but at minimum, includes the playwright(s) and a director or producer. Independent theatre companies are welcome to apply. To be considered, the play may have had readings or developmental workshops, but may not have had more than one previous production (including academic productions).

CSC APPRENTICE PROGRAM (Closed for 2026) 

• What: Commonwealth Shakespeare Company’s apprentice program is a 7.5-week summer intensive that gives early career performers a rigorous tour of Shakespeare’s language in professional practice and performance. The program includes training by CSC’s faculty and artists in Shakespeare’s Text, Linklater Voice, Movement, and several specialized workshop series.

CEF is a customized professional development experience for 8-10 individuals who are selected through a competitive application process. The Arts & Business Council of Greater Boston is currently looking to accept a small, diverse group of solopreneurs, entrepreneurs and artists working to build a professional practice. Coaching and teaching will be conducted in English and Spanish. MAJESTIC THEATRE APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM (CLOSED FOR 2026)

• What: The Majestic Theater (West Springfield, MA) announces a summer apprentice program, seeking to provide emerging artists in the Pioneer Valley and beyond with professional performance experience and educational offerings from industry professionals.  Majestic Theater Apprentices will perform in one or both Majestic Children’s Theater productions - 2026 season announced as Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!: The Musical! and The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical. Additionally, apprentices will have non-performance responsibilities in administration, technical theater, front of house, and/or theater education. Program benefits include educational workshops led by Majestic Theater staff and other industry professionals, and a $250/week stipend. Limited housing may be available. Program runs approximately late June through mid August. This program is open to college-aged young professionals, current college students, and recent graduates with a declared major in a related field and/or relevant experience in theater performance. The Majestic Theater welcomes and encourages applications from artists of all genders, races, ethnicities, and backgrounds. • What: The Barrington Stage Company’s Musical Theatre Conservatory (MTC) offers an immersive 8-week training program designed for pre-professional performers.
