BOSTON LEARNING CIRCLE: COMMONS-BASED APPROACHES FOR THEATRE 

• What: HowlRound Theatre Commons is launching a five-week, in-person Learning Circle for theatre practitioners to reflect on and build knowledge about commons-based approaches to theatre. Sessions will explore defining “the commons”; shared resources, infrastructure, and knowledge; peer-to-peer production and sharing; and governance, stewardship, and curation. This is HowlRound’s first in-person Learning Circle, with simultaneous cohorts in Boston and New York City. In each city, we’re looking for up to fifteen people with a range of theatremaking experiences—from students to established practitioners—who are interested in connecting with other values-aligned makers, sharing their experiences, learning from one another, and building relationships that promote commons-based approaches to theatre. Preparation: Each week, participants will read or listen to several HowlRound pieces on a particular topic. Meetings: Ninety-minute, in-person sessions for reflecting on the assigned pieces and considering how their ideas might apply to participants’ own practices. Additional resources: A crowd-sourced “resource potluck” of related materials. The Boston cohort will be facilitated by HowlRound co-director Julia Schachnik, and the New York cohort by senior editor and learning programs manager Ashley Malaronte. Each will collaborate with a weekly guest facilitator who authored one of the assigned materials. Capacity is limited. Interested participants are asked to complete this brief application form:. MAJESTIC THEATRE APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM (CLOSED FOR 2026)

• What: The Majestic Theater (West Springfield, MA) announces a summer apprentice program, seeking to provide emerging artists in the Pioneer Valley and beyond with professional performance experience and educational offerings from industry professionals.  Majestic Theater Apprentices will perform in one or both Majestic Children’s Theater productions - 2026 season announced as Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!: The Musical! and The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical. Additionally, apprentices will have non-performance responsibilities in administration, technical theater, front of house, and/or theater education. Program benefits include educational workshops led by Majestic Theater staff and other industry professionals, and a $250/week stipend. Limited housing may be available.
