Residential House Design

This project was done in the first year of study and served as an introduction to Building Information Modelling (BIM) where I was tasked to complete a research assignment, which involved:

  • Researching the materials commonly used in traditionally constructed low-rise residential buildings and the way in which they are incorporated into the structure, fabric, components and finishes.

  • Research on the main elements that comprise a low-rise residential building identifying functional requirements.

  • Understanding how adequacy in materials and workmanship can be established in residential construction and how the construction of low-rise residential buildings has evolved in history to deliver the current code compliant and low/zero carbon aspirational dwellings of today.

To apply what was learnt, a Building Information Model of a 3-Bedroom, 5 Person house was created in compliance to the UK Building Regulatory standards, which served as the beginning to 3D Modelling and the use of Revit.
