BIM and Facilities Management

In my second year of study, I was introduced to the basics of facility management with the use of BIM, where we looked at a project that involved the appraisal of the office floors of the Joseph Priestley Building in Birmingham and what must be done to update or maintain current services to satisfy the current building regulations, by analysing the short and long-term requirements of the current design, management and operational activities of the existing office floor. Building Information Modelling (BIM) was used to update and improve the level of detail of the building to a present day standard; as of 2016 the government has made the production of Level 2 BIM models compulsory for all commercial projects. This project developed my skills in critical thinking and problem solving to make strategic desicions at both the design and operational stages, whilst showcasing the nature of Facilities Management.
