The overall process
For a Regular Team, the app considers two types of information:
Coach ratings
Each player has ratings from 1 to 10 for:
Contact
Speed
Power
Fielding
Throwing
Catching
Recorded performance
As games are saved, the app can also consider:
On-base percentage, or OBP
Slugging percentage, or SLG
OPS
Strikeout rate
Recent on-base rate from the last three games
Runs batted in
Previous average batting position
Bench and defensive opportunity history
The app reduces the influence of statistics when there is little recorded data. A player with only a few plate appearances is therefore influenced more by coach ratings, while a player with a larger sample is influenced more by actual performance.
How the batting roles are filled
The app does not simply rank every player using one score.
It first fills five batting-order roles:
Leadoff
Contact Hitter
Best All-Round Hitter
Cleanup Hitter
Run Producer
After those five roles are filled, the remaining players are ranked as lineup depth according to the selected strategy.
1. Leadoff
The leadoff calculation strongly values:
Speed
Contact
On-base percentage
Recent on-base performance
Speed receives the strongest coach-rating weight for the leadoff role. The intention is to identify a player likely to reach base and create pressure.
2. Contact Hitter
The second position strongly values:
Contact
On-base percentage
Recent on-base performance
Lower strikeout rate
Some speed
Contact receives the strongest weighting here, and strikeouts reduce the player’s score.
3. Best All-Round Hitter
The third position balances:
Contact
Power
OPS
Recent on-base performance
This position is intended for a player who combines reaching base with the ability to drive the ball.
4. Cleanup Hitter
The fourth position strongly values:
Power
Slugging percentage
Contact
Recorded RBIs
Power receives the strongest weight in this role.
5. Run Producer
The fifth position values:
Power
Contact
Slugging percentage
Recent on-base performance
It remains power-oriented, but it is more balanced than the cleanup calculation.
