System Support Collaboration with Communities In Schools Highlight
The school counselor collaborated with teachers and parents to form small groups based on student needs. After analyzing the needs assessment data, parents were contacted, consent forms were obtained, and 25 total small groups were conducted throughout the school year. Small groups with Communities IN School (CIS) are year-round, starting in September/October and ending in May. Small groups with the school counselor are on a 6-8 week rotation. Small group topics included: assertiveness, anxiety, family changes, self-control, organizational skills, work habits, self-regulation, anger, self-esteem, growth mindset, mindfulness, friendship skills, social skills, academic, problem solving and conflict resolution, communication skills, and perfectionism. As a result of the small groups, students are better equipped with the coping skills needed to support their academic, emotional, and social growth.

Program Highlights
Significant Highlight of Responsive Services
Goal: The school counselor will utilize multi-tiered systems of supports. The school counselor will collaborate with PTO, CIS, the administration team, and district departments to increase student attendance from 94% to 97%, specifically targeting students at the tier 3 attendance level.
Highlight:
The counselor collaborated with our administration team, CIS, and PTO to organize and implement an attendance incentive for students during the 2024-2025 school year to help motivate students to increase their attendance percentages. Parents were contacted and offered support and resources to improve attendance by the attendance clerk, the school counselor, and the admin. Students were referred to the district Outreach Department to conduct home visits and provide further resources to help reduce the students' absenteeism. Students with chronic absenteeism were included in school programs, such as Rising Stars, Green Thumb Gardeners, Citizen Patrol, Creativity in Motion, Weird Science, Peer tutors/tutees, and Lunch groups with CIS. The goal was for our attendance percentage to increase from 94.9% to 97% by May. After analyzing the results, the data showed that despite our efforts, student attendance increased to 96.1%. The data revealed an increase in absenteeism during holiday breaks and towards the end of the year. The data also revealed that we needed to elevate our approach in handling our most chronically absent students. This information will be used the following school year when planning our use of the incentive program again and school activities.
