The whole family knows about Uncle Jay because clueless grown-ups allowed him to be around children. I never understood why he was the way he was. Maybe there’s something in his house that’ll explain it. As it happens, there is. And his porn stash is not the strangest thing I find in there.
MY DEAD UNCLE’S PORN COLLECTION explores family secrets from an unusual perspective. It's the story of what happens when an abuse survivor becomes the in-case-of-emergency person for the person who violated them as a child. Why do I do it? Partly out of charity--you don't just leave a sick, elderly relative hanging out there. Partly out of self-interest--I own half his house.)
MY DEAD UNCLE’S PORN COLLECTION approaches a sensitive subject with alacrity and compassion. It's about bringing long-held family secrets to light. It's about dealing with the damage done by a dysfunctional family and coming through it with grace and humor. Yes, humor. It's okay to laugh.

We had to warn each new generation about him. We never understood why he was the way he was. Maybe there’s something in his house that’ll explain it. All of us are curious. Some of us are furious.

Dating on the Road to Medicare
I'm riding in a taxi chatting with the driver. And he's chatting me back! It's great to be talking to someone my own age. He’s even kind of cute. It’s a welcome respite from being the live-in caregiver to my 84-year-old dad, but it doesn't last long. Did I mention Dad's in the back seat? And he couldn't have picked a worse time for -- how shall I put this? -- a gastric emergency. I have to take care of it, but that doesn't make me unattractive, does it? I mean, if you're dating on the road to Medicare, there's a whole different set of criteria for your perfect love match.
