Hey There Everyone!

My name is Windy Lynn Warren, but you can call me Windy.

I am so excited to offer my community - wait, no, my writers' world at large, a fantastical place to roam.  This is a space where we can gather as friends, and by being together, bring out the very best parts of us.

A little, or a lot about me?  First, fair warning, I'm a talker - and a writer, ha!

I did attend school here or there, first obtaining a BSW in my distant past, & an MBA in Human Resources Management, and an MA in English and Creative Writing with an emphasis in fiction within the last ten.  The latter is my most cherished accomplishment.  After finishing the HR degree, I thought, "I am done." Funny enough, I soon came across a school that said they'd help me publish - and they did! I figure that book, is my ultimate rough draft - you know how a first book usually is for us writers'. She's a novella, really.  But it's a part of a much bigger picture:  The Sleeping State (the first installment), along with two more books to complete a sci-fi fantasy trilogy called The Perfect Sleep and The Sleeping Planet.

I dreamt a lot about that trilogy, and it's one of those projects you can set aside knowing it will always be there waiting for you.  (Even when you initially started it waaaayyyy back in '95.)

I ended up getting sidetracked by a difficult emotional time when my little brother, Rog, passed away four years ago in March.  I had moved out here in this neck of Wisconsin to live near him, so his unexpected death felt like getting hit by a Ram truck to the head.  I'm sounding morbidly odd to be sure.  My (and Mom's) severe loss served as the springboard for my first memoir titled 20 Memories I Could Live Without, spanning from ages three through about fifty-two.  Rog is/was the focus of the last two chapters, the final one being "He's Dead." Again, morbid is my first intention when I write that out loud, to be sure. (Word for the page?)  I found I wholeheartedly needed to make those last two memories about him.  I was able to work through most of those memories, and I did.  On my last notation for these ideas on this website, I said this book was in final revisions.  Yes, and now I am going full force.  I'm able to tolerate as much as I can of one memory, and move on to the next.  They say it's cathartic to write down trauma or turmoil, which makes a "no duh" kind of common sense.  But, for me, I actually think of a couple of studies I've been hankering on reading on the particular matter which only confirms that when you dump all of that sometimes chaotic material you have floating around that is your "past" life, you may analyze it, sure.  But you can also Finally, with a big "F", move on.  I have Faith.  Another big "F" intended.

My most recent haunts, or should I say pursuits, involve publishing short stories, essays, and informational type articles on Medium.com.  What a great venue!  The members there have been so kind and supportive, and  I shared one of my chapters from 20 Memories I Could Live Without on the platform.  Just so you know, the odd ducks whom I don't respect from my past life are never capitalized.  Some have no names at all - a writer's psychological quirk, I must say.

Armed with this diverse educational and creative background, I have been exploring what I truly want to do next.  Since making my home in Baraboo, WI, I have prospered.  I have grown.  I feel loved.  Too sappy, maybe.

West Baraboo is easily my favorite place I've ever called home.  It was right here in October of 2025 that I launched the very first Baraboo Writers Blast group with my official Co-facilitator, Nancy A. Warren (my "Ma.")  My goal was to meet people, offer something meaningful to my community, and give back in the only way I knew how and could. While I won't list everyone by name, I am endlessly grateful to those who have supported me along the way - I hope you know in your hearts how much I care.  Creating a safe, welcoming space for others to dive into their passion for expression has been truly fulfilling.

I noticed quite recently that my forte in life may be not only teaching writing techniques but also facilitating memoir-mapping classes.  I don't know if it's the ever present social worker in me, or my background in HR, but I have always been deeply passionate about group dynamics and training. I love researching and developing structured curricula for creative writers and memoirists so these storytelling tools can be accessible and therapeutic for everyone.

As I edit this page, I must say my advocacy is also moving forth.  I have come to the conclusion my writing may actually go farther with my need to help the disabled thrive.  I say disabled because we all are, in some form or fashion.  I know I am.  I am currently using my love for all things statutes, laws, and binders of minutes to implement a plan for research on certain topics I will have listed, in time, on my personal professional platform.  Helping others is why I went to school for Social Work way back when, and that part of me has never left.  I doubt it ever will.

There you go - that's me.  Now you know! I sit here smiling with a sense of disbelief that I finally put all this forward, and covered all bases?

My websites are linked below if you want to read any of those stories or memoir materials - and maybe smile a little, too!

Thank you for reading, and welcome once again!
