●ABSTRACT: Generally, Ru or Ir is used as a photocatalyst in photo redox reactions. As these minerals are highly expensive in nature, there is always a search for new organic photocatalysts such as BOIMPY. All the reactions are carried out via free radical cationic radical and anionic radical formation. BOIMPY (denoted by B) can be excited via absorption of the energy of a photon (H+). Through energy transfer excited molecules (e.g., B*) can come back to their normal state (e.g., B). Depending on the electronic configuration the molecule can be singlet (Sm= 1) or triplet (Sm= 3). For this type of property, BOIMPY can be used as a good photocatalyst. In this project, we mainly focused on so many substrate syntheses and finally made our desired photocatalyst BOIMPY and explained some of its applications.

ABSTRACT: Photoredox catalysis is one of the most rapidly expanding areas of radical chemistry in synthesis. Most of the free-radical photoredox reactions employ Ru or Ir organometallic complexes as photocatalyst (PC), which are highly efficient, but the high cost of the Ir photocatalyst makes the search for new organic photocatalysts highly desirable. BODIPY exhibits a great potential due to its easy synthesis and derivatization, alongside the tenability of its photophysical proprieties. In this reading project, we discussed how BODIPY can be a good alternative as a new-generation photocatalyst.

SUMMER INTERNSHIP 2022 at NISER BHUBANESWAR
Time Duration: 28th May 2022 - 27th July 2022
Research Institute: National Institute of Science Education and Research Bhubaneswar (NISER Bhubaneswar - INDIA)
Supervisors: Dr. Sharanappa Nembenna
Research Topic: "Synthesis of N-donor ligands".
As a first-year Integrated M.Sc. student, in my first internship mainly I focused on learning and understanding what an actual research environment looks like. I learned how to apply various chemicals through Reflux, Purification, Rota vaporization, and Column chromatography to synthesize N donor ligands, especially thiourea, NacNac, Carbodiimide (CDI), and Conjugated Bis Guanidine (CBG).
