Ballinskelligs Remembered Website

Modern technologies has afforded us many opportunities in how we record and present information.
Coiste Forbartha na Sceilge has taken advantage of these new developments in recording and presenting the local history associated with the Ballinskelligs area. This project endeavours to record the many features associated with the area, for instance, folklore, old pictures, traditions and placenames.
Mike Palmer came to live in Emlaghdreenagh a number of years ago. Mike is a skilled computer expert and has very kindly made these skills available to the Coiste Forbartha. Mike and I have worked on the project over the last number of years and as a result every townland and dwelling in Ballinskelligs have been mapped. As well as that all historical buildings, landmarks, archaeological sites and other significant features in Ballinskelligs are identified on these maps.
Over the years many articles have been written about these landmarks and these articles are now attached to the relevant features on the website. Over the last few months Maureen O’Sullivan has kindly assisted with this demanding work.
This is a work in progress that will hopefully continue for many years to come. That is why you are invited to contribute to the website if you have a personal story, an old photograph or some other interesting information related to Ballinskelligs.
In order to ensure that no inappropriate material would appear on the site an editorial committee made up Mike Palmer, Dessy Cronin, Maureen O Sullivan and Mícheál Ó Leidhin will vet all articles.
