These courses develop the foundational skills for college-level writing. These skills include learning how to respond
critically to texts, developing a thesis, making claims and supporting them with evidence, responding to and working
with sources, framing a written project with organization and transitions, citing and documenting sources in
accordance with MLA documentation standards, and editing scholarly work. Students will learn how to consider the
rhetorical nature of academic discourse as they move through the drafting process and write several multi-page
essays.
