Information about corian solid surface
Corian is a brand of solid surface material, invented by DuPont, made from two-thirds natural minerals and one-third acrylic polymer. It is known for being non-porous, hygienic, highly versatile, and allowing for seamless seams, which creates a cohesive and integrated look in various applications like kitchen countertops, vanity tops, and wall cladding. Corian is also durable, easy to clean, and can be thermoformed into different shapes.
Composition and Manufacturing
Ingredients:
Corian is a composite material, composed of a blend of two-thirds natural minerals, primarily Aluminium TriHydrate (ATH) (a byproduct of bauxite ore), and one-third acrylic resin.
Manufacturing:
The raw mix of ATH and acrylic resin is then hardened, cut, and trimmed into sheets of varying thicknesses, such as 6mm, 12mm, or 19mm.
Key Properties and Benefits
Non-Porous:
Its non-porous nature makes Corian hygienic, resistant to stains from everyday items like turmeric, and easy to clean.
Homogeneous:
The material has a consistent color and particulate pattern throughout its cross-section, allowing for the creation of inconspicuous, seamless joints.
Durable and Repairable:
Corian is a remarkably durable material that stands up well to daily use and can resist impacts and nicks. Minor scratches or blemishes can often be removed with abrasive cleaners or professional refinishing.
Versatile:
Its unique bendability and seamless capabilities make it extremely versatile for a wide range of designs, from integrated sinks and complex shapes to wall panels and decorative features.
Aesthetic Appeal:
It offers a vast range of colors and patterns and has a modern, seamless appearance that can enhance various architectural styles.
Applications
Kitchens and Bathrooms:
Widely used for kitchen countertops, integrated sinks, vanity tops, and shower walls.
Commercial and Public Spaces:
Found in hospitality settings for bars and reception desks, as well as in retail for displays and counters.
Other Uses:
Also used for wall cladding, furniture, and decorative design elements like ornamental latticed screens for mandirs.
Maintenance
Daily Cleaning: Stains and everyday marks are easily removed with warm, soapy water.
Addressing Scratches: Fine scratches can often be buffed out using a damp sponge and a mild abrasive cleanser.
Professional Refinishing: Deeper scratches or significant damage can be professionally repaired by refinishing the surface.
