Historical Overview
Historical Overview
Babesa Higher Secondary School is located about 11 kilometers away towards the south of Thimphu’s core capital city. The school stands tall amid the pristine environment and lush trees covering an area of precisely seven acres. Away from the hustle and bustle of the town, the school is perfectly situated for its calm and peaceful learning activities.
Established in the year 2008, the school in the first year of its operation began with just two levels; grades seven and nine; with pupils coming from the two feeder schools; Babesa Primary School and Lungtenphu Lower Secondary School respectively. Mr. Pema Tshering as the first Principal nurtured the school. Mr. D.K Pradhan took over charge as the second Principal who administered the function of the school until 2015. Between 2016 and 2019 the school touched a new height under the leadership of Mr. Sangay Khandu.
The school reached all-time high on 18 February 2019, when it was upgraded to a higher secondary school with the initiation of class XI with all three streams.
The school for a brief period operated without the principal and Mr. Ugyen Tenzin, Vice Principal took over the school as Officiating Principal in 2020. From the year 2021 onwards, the school rang the changes on headship with Mr. Rinzin Namgyal joining as the fourth Principal.
Working with the motto of “Perseverance shall win through”, the school in recent years has seen significant improvement in every aspect; the most important being the Bhutan Board Examination result with a greater number of students qualifying for higher education each year which is notable.
Another milestone in the history of the school is that in 2018 the school signed the Delivery and Performance Agreement (DPA) for school autonomy with MoE and Thromde Administration Thimphu, which allows the school to function as an autonomous institution.
