3D Anaglyph

3D Anaglyph is the stereoscopic 3D effect achieved by using different filters of colours,  typically red and cyan (one colour for each eye).  When looking through 3D/ anaglyph glasses, each of the two images reaches the eye it's intended for, revealing an integrated stereoscopic image.

Glossary- from the Murray park  Photography website

Stereoscopic  - Creating the illusion of depth

Filter - a device that selectively transmits light of different wavelengths (colours)

Cyan and Red- Colours used in 3d Glasses

Depth - Distance between foreground and background

Composition - How subjects are positioned in the image

Exposure - How bright or dark and image is

Puppet Warp - Photoshop tool used to strecth part of an image

Inspiration: Ideas for my image

My ideas for my photoshoot is trying to capture an abandoned building feel, specifically an abandoned environment which has bright colours in a dark setting. My inspiration for this shoot is the Backrooms (some image examples are above), a horror game that is filled with strange levels and entities that are dream like, and feel unsettling even in levels with a normal environment (such as an abandoned swimming pool). Another inspiration for me was the band TVgirl's album covers, which are bright and often fuzzy/ have static effects (two examples either side of this text). I will try the 3D effect with settings and empty rooms, trying both bright and pigmented images like the album, covers, and dark and horror-esque lighting or effects such as the empty swimming pool.  I will also try doing subjects, either faces or hands with the 3D effect, my idea for the hands is a handshake as it can represent a fuzzy memory of a friendship for example.

My Ideas: drawing!

Idea: rooms

Ideas; people/ hands

Idea: flowers

Image Analysis:

'3D image of low angle perspective of a rectangular stairwell'

This photo is from gettyimages.co.uk and uses 3D Anaglyph to create a lucid dreamlike image. The effect creates this from the stairs being photographed from an angle that begins to look never ending. This angle combined with the 3D Anaglyph  makes the viewer feel uneasy and possibly uncomfortable.

To improve this image, I would use Puupetwarp to make the bottom of the stairs look closer to the camera, which will emphasize the never ending stairs effect. I would also make the image more eerie, so that the unsettling effect which is already emitted from this image is even clearer to the viewer.

Nature Photo shoot

For this nature shoot, I decided to focus on flowers and try and focus on more vibrant colours like pink or yellow. The photos I did not like were because either the photo was too plain and didn't have the vibrancy I wanted. I also preferred the close shots rather than the shots which can a wider frame. On my next shoot I want to experiment indoors with more industrial options. I think my edited images go well with the different colours, for example doing cyan+red for a yellow flower whilst doing green+purple for a pink flower.

Before and After: Nature Photo shoot

I have tried to make the 3D effect subtle and have tried different colours for the effect. The first one uses the classic red and cyan combination, the middle photo uses green and purple, the third one also uses purple and green but because of the contrast in subject (the frog's grey colour vs the flower's bright pink colour) there is a clear difference to the subtlety of the effect with the frog's image being clearer whilst the flower image appears more fuzzy than 3D.

My next steps in this project is to focus on industrial/inside subjects.

Industrial/Indoors Photo shoot

Most of the images I have crossed off was either that they were out of focus, the subject was too basic or I didn't like the angle the photo was taken at. The images I like have potential for 3D as they are clear, taken at an interesting angle or a close up angle which I prefer in 3D shoots, or the subject is clear and would suit having the 3D effect. I want to focus on my images I took in the boiler room, as I think once edited it will give me the horror vibe I am hoping to capture, or the vivid bright colours I was hoping to capture from the TvGirl albums.

Version #1

Version #2

Version #3

My favourite version of the middle image is version #1 and version #2. I love the contrast in version #2, as well as how clear the red color is in the 3D effect. I plan on using puppet warp to update the image and realign the meter so it looks closer to the screen. I also liked version #1 due to the clear 3D, as well as the ominous effect created from the darker and less saturated image.

My next steps are a hand shoot after I try and use Puppetwarp on version #2. The other images I have edited are more subtle, apart from the edited images in the top right, so I want to try less subtle 3D like the image mentioned.

(I tried to do Puppetwarp on version #2, but was unsuccessful. So my next step is to do a shoot on hands, making the 3D effect very visible.)

My favourite anf final images are versions #3 of both serparate photos.
