To get certified by the World Cetacean Alliance as a Whale Heritage Site, a candidacy application must be submitted showcasing how the Azores met the criteria established by the WCA. WHS criteria focus on how people celebrate, benefit from, and seek to conserve the cetaceans with which they coexist. The application must contain an extensive report with written and graphical evidences of the status of the archipelago to comply with the requirements. These include information about legislation, sustainability, culture, history, and natural environment, always highlighting the importance of cetaceans for the Azorean society, in the past, present and future.
At the moment, we are preparing this candidacy application in order to be submitted before the end of 2022.
