In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Assalamualaikum wbt. Welcome to my humble education abode.
This teaching portfolio depicts my teaching methods and explores my teaching experiences to date. It explains my expectations of students who participate in the courses I teach, then demonstrates how my teaching methods and theory help students meet these expectations. On this platform, I also include other activities that I involved in as an academician. I plan to document my classroom activities and to share students' testimonials on my teaching.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
If I can recall, I started to have an interest in teaching since in high school. I can see how teachers play a big role in students' development, and then it brings to the family and community.
As I continue my studies, I kept the dream to be an educator. After graduating, I started my career as an engineer to gain more hands-on experience in this field. Alhamdulillah, after completing my master’s degree, I started my career as an academician in 2014 as a lecturer at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, UiTM Pasir Gudang. After understanding the role of an academician, I was excited to know that I have so many ways to contribute to the university, and the community and contributing is its KPI!
But this is a new journey. Previously I work with pieces of equipment and machines more than I work with humans. But as an academician, people skills need to be learned.
As I teach, my teaching philosophy refined over time. I can see that everyone has the potential to learn and grow. Each and everyone has their particular way at their own pace. As long as opportunity and guidance are given, they can achieve what's impossible. Learning is a process, and with that, I allow my students the chance to see mistakes and imperfections as a process to grow better.
However, the main key to knowledge is first to start with good manners. l-Qadi ‘Iyad reported: Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) said, “My mother would dress me up and say to me: Go to Shaykh Rabi’ah and learn from his manners before his knowledge.”- Tartīb al-Madārik 1/130. And another quote: “If you knew the importance of adab (good manners), you would pray to Allah for more adab, instead of more(material) wealth", Ali R.A.
Only those who are adorned with different manners and noble morals would be able to acquire useful knowledge. Those who do not have noble manners and morals would not benefit from their efforts to gain knowledge.
In evaluating students’ performance, I hold to the principle that you can only evaluate after you have taught and guided them. I avoid putting assumptions to my first-year students, that they already know all the basic principles of physics, chemistry and electronics. I always remind myself that the purpose of education is not to fill their minds with facts, but to teach and train them to think, synthesize, analyze and observe, as much and as depth, as possible they can.
Lastly, my task here is not only for mentoring, supervising, coaching and teaching, but also to learn. I still learn how to teach.

THE 5Ms
MURABBI
An educator who attempts to impart holistic development of learners in accordance with Islamic educational philosophy. The holistic development covers the development of all aspects of the human being i.e., physical, intellectual, social, moral and spiritual.
MUDARRIS
An educator who encourages students to read, repeat and remember information and also seeks to impart basic knowledge to the minds and hearts of students usually by direct instruction.
MU’ALLIM
An educator who has mastered the techniques of instruction such that students study a range of subjects in a variety of ways. One who is able to organise information and learning activities using a variety of instructional strategies, either teacher-centred or learner-centred; capable to stimulate and motivate through effective pedagogy and attractive learning environments.
MU'ADDIB
An educator who seeks to train students in terms of akhlāq (good behaviour) and adab (good manners) by means of setting a good example as well as by disciplining them through the use of positive and negative reinforcement. Thus, allowing students to internalise values and apply them in good behaviour.
MURSHID
An educator who guides their followers (murīds) on a spiritual journey known as tarīqa (the path) through suluk (spiritual wayfaring). One who does not only embodies good behaviour, but transforms his devotee by means of ‘spiritual transmission’ and purification of the heart.
