Cleaning the Dishwasher Filter
Our dishwasher features an eco-friendly filtration system that helps keep contaminants out of our septic system. The filter, located in the bottom of the washer basin, should be cleaned with a fresh water rinse after each load for optimal dishwashing performance. PRO TIP: For best performance, run the kitchen faucet until the water flows hot before starting the dishwasher.
Important: Toilets Aren't Trash Cans!
Houses along the coast do not have municipal sewage facilities and instead rely on septic systems for septic disposal. A septic system is an effective, yet delicate means of managing human waste, and must be cared for properly to ensure environmental safety and longevity of the system. Whether you flush it down the toilet, grind it in the garbage disposal, or pour it down the sink, shower, or bath, everything that goes down your drains ends up in our septic system. What goes down the drain affects how well our septic system works.
More information about septic systems and their environmental impact is available here:

An easy rule of thumb: Do not flush anything besides human waste and toilet paper.
Never flush:
Cooking grease or oil
Non-flushable wipes, such as baby wipes or other wet wipes
Photographic solutions
Feminine hygiene products
Condoms
Dental floss
Diapers
Cigarette butts
Coffee grounds
Cat litter
Paper towels
Pharmaceuticals
Household chemicals like gasoline, oil, pesticides, antifreeze, and paint or paint thinners
A septic system also takes time to drain when new materials are introduced into the tank. Therefore, limiting the amount running water by minimizing shower times and allowing time between laundry and dishwasher loads can be very helpful. Thank you for being mindful of our maintenance and utility costs, and for helping to minimize our property's environmental impact.
