UpLift is a School-Community-University partnership that supports the health and learning of children and youth throughout Nova Scotia. UpLift is hosted within Dalhousie University’s Healthy Populations Institute while operating in partnership with Government, Nova Scotia Health, school communities, RCEs, non-profits and the private sector.
The goal of UpLift is to create environments that are healthy, vibrant, connected, safe and empowering. Embedded within Nova Scotia’s existing Health Promoting Schools (HSC) model, UpLift means catalyzing action, sharing successes and creating the conditions for all children to achieve their health and learning potential. One of the ways UpLift supports AVRCE schools is through Student Action Grants. Every school in AVRCE is eligible for a one-time $5,000 grant for a youth-led project. Youth engagement coordinators (YECs) help student groups assess the school health environment and select a project that addresses an identified need related to food, physical activity and/or mental health. YECs can also help secure other sources of funding for projects greater than $5,000.
The UpLift Partnership is about intentionally creating environments that are healthy, vibrant, connected, safe and empowering. Through UpLift, healthy conditions become the default, well integrated and the new norm – everywhere across the province. Because better health means better learning and a better future!
