Effective April 1, 2022, the hotel must allow Pets to accompany guests in their guest rooms, if allowed by and in accordance with local applicable law. A “Pet” is defined as a domesticated dog or cat and does not include Service Animals. Hotels must follow Standard 902.08 with respect to Service Animals.
No more than 2 Pets are permitted per guest room.
The hotel is required to accept Pets as long as they don’t exceed a combined weight of 75lbs. It is at the hotel’s discretion to accept Pets above the combined 75-pound weight limit.
The hotel must accept all breeds, if allowed by and in accordance with local applicable law.
If a guest arrives with a Pet that is not permitted or a Pet needs to be removed from the property, a recommended kennel in the area must be suggested.
The hotel must state on all Brand websites that the hotel accepts pets, along with applicable pet fees and damage fee disclaimer.
Questions to ask for Service Animals:
You can only ask 2 questions per ADA standards to verify if an animal is a service animal:
1. Is the animal required because of the handler’s disability?
2. What work or task the animal has been trained to perform?
This is just to weed out any emotional support animals that owners might think are ADA certified animals, but if they answer both questions properly then by ADA standards it is a service animal.
Pets must be permitted in all guest rooms and public areas except for the fitness center, food and beverage areas and the pool. The hotel may not exclude rooms, limit inventory nor reserve areas of the hotels for non-Pet stays.
Pets must be on a leash or in a carrier anytime they’re outside of the guest room.
The hotel must designate an outdoor pet-friendly area, which must be clearly identified with brand graphics from marKIT. A minimum of two (2) pet waste stations must be placed on the property of the hotel in green areas and stocked with pet waste bags. If a designated pet waste station isn’t available, the Front Desk must have complimentary pet waste bags available in accordance with standard 211.06 upon request and directions to the nearest relief area.
The hotel must provide guests with "Pet in Room" door signage to be used when leaving Pets unattended. Required signage is located on marKIT.
Is an emotional support animal considered a ADA approved Service animal? Answer: No, they are not ADA approved service animals because they are not trained to perform a specific task.
If someone's dog calms them when having an anxiety attack, does this qualify as a service animal? Answer: It depends, The ADA makes a distinction between psychiatric service animals and emotional support animals. If the dog has been trained to sense that an anxiety attack is about to happen and take a specific action to help avoid the attack or lessen its impact, that would qualify as a service animal. However, if the dog's mere presence provides comfort, that would not be considered a service animal under the ADA.
Are "service-animals-in-training" considered service animals under the ADA? Answer: No, the animal must already be trained.
Does the service animal have to wear a vest or patch to identifying them as service animals? Answer: No, the ADA does not require them to wear anything.
The ADA requires the service animal to be under control at all times.
If a service animal is out of control and the handler does not take effective action to control it, staff may request that the animal be removed from the premises.
