Provost Tournament
Schedule: Sunday, 2pm - 4pm
Format
Duration: 2 x 25 minute periods with an
Open field, meaning that you can ask to fight any other willing fighter
Win / Loss: Fencers will fight a best of three. If there is no clear winner after those three fights (e.g. Three double deaths, a win each and a double death, etc.), you get one more fight to break that tie or else it is reported as a double loss. I'm mean that way.
Fencers will be recognized for a) most wins b) most fights and c) outstanding courtesy (prizes TBD)
Masters of Defence may be present on the field but they will not be reporting their wins / losses, but you are expected to report your results after fighting them.
Introductions
At the start of the Tourney, fencers will be asked to introduce themselves, including
their preferred title / pronouns
mentor relationship (provost, student, etc.)or sponsor for the tourney
their inspiration (present or not)(inspirations can include family or friend)
a brief word about their persona (time period, nationality)(“still working on it” is acceptable)
After introductions, there will be a Grand Salute to the Crown, inspirations, and to your fellow fencers.
Purpose
A provost tourney is an opportunity to face all kinds of folks that you don't get to fight regularly. If you are not currently a Provost to a Master of Defence, it's an opportunity to get out and introduce yourself to them and ask for them to sponsor you into the tourney. Honest, they want to get as many fencers out there as they can so most will be willing to sponsor you. If they say no, it's usually because they already have many that they are already sponsoring and watching and believe that they would not be able to provide you with feedback and support. Try to find a Master that you normally get to work with. If a Master cannot be found to sponsor you, Magnifico Bjar will get you out there (be warned – he gives homework).
