Your Challenge:

I would like you to identify aspects of the triad of impairments with regard to a learner with autism that you have worked with or would like to work with. If you are stuck for ideas please let me know. You will need to get to know the learner by, for example:

1. Observing his/her interactions in your class (if applicable) and/or another class.
2. Working with the learner as part of a small group or 1:1 (perhaps an MLC session)
3. Subtly observing his/her interactions with peers in their free time

Think about the following:

• Which aspects is he/she having most difficulties with?
• What impact is this having on him/her (both in and out of the classroom)?
• What strategies do you think could be used to help?

You may even pick up on some sensory issues, so you could also apply the bullet points above to this aspect.
