Write a Book in a Day is a fun, creative and collaborative competition for students in years 5 to 12 and adult writing groups. All stories must be fully written, edited, formatted, illustrated, and digitally published between the hours of 8am to 8pm on your chosen day. Teams must include a minimum of five members, and a maximum of ten, and all stories have to be written incorporating the set parameters received on the day. Digital editions of the completed stories are made available on the Online Library and shared with hospitals across Australia.
Funds raised through sponsorship go to The Kids' Cancer Project, a national charity supporting childhood cancer research.
Every year, I supervise a primary school and high school team as they write their books, and form my own team, consisting of two friends from my high school three unit English class, my husband (who insists he doesn't love illustrating, but he does love me), and whoever else we can ring in on the day. I love the collaborative nature of this project. It's amazing what you can achieved fueled by the power of Pepsi, chocolate, and a twelve-hour deadline.
If you are in Australia, you might like to check this out for yourself, or your students/ children.
