Hello my name is Austin Stevens, and today I will be rhetorically analyzing the article “From Abortion to Climate Change the Alarmists were right” written by Andi Zeisler. This article is about Texas’ new abortion law which bans abortion after as early as 6 weeks into pregnancy's, or after a heartbeat can be detected, and it goes over some public outrage some people have about it
Before we get into the article let me provide some insight on it, so recently Texas passed a new abortion law which banned abortion early into pregnancy's. This bill came with a lot of backlash from the public, and pro-choice feminist groups across America who feel it is the persons choice of if they want an abortion or not.
. In this article Zeisler is very biased, and more pro choice. He includes examples of how climate scientists and activists are usually right but nobody really cares about what they say, and also he says “no ones happy to say they told you so in a worst-case scenario situation” He says this because he wants to use logos of how professionally trained people are usually right but people still try to outsmart them.
Zeisler also uses Kairos in this article. This article is still very relevant to this day because this just happened a couple weeks ago, and happened in our community. This article was released around a good time because during this time, a lot more people are speaking out about women’s rights and pro-choice vs pro-life.
In the article Zeisler says “the nations most baroquely cruel abortion law is now the law of the land” (para 1). Zeisler wants the reader to know that in his mind this bill is cruel, but it was still surprisingly passed in some states. Zeisler thinks that this law was a bad idea, and if it is passed all over the US there might be problems.
Zeisler probably wanted to get this article to the current generation of young adults and teenagers. I say this because he uses slang like “touch grass and “dude” (para 2). He may be trying to reach the younger audience so he can persuade the younger generation into believing what he believes is right, or to awaken them to what is going on in Texas and how he disapproves of the bill.
