Who Am I?
Combining my love for photography and stories (books), my Integrating Activity project, titled “Who Am I?”, will be a digital photography book with short written poems/reflections accompanying each tale.
Following the chosen theme of identity, the photographs and written components will center around constructing identities and narratives. I want my photographs to not only implicitly tell a story, reflecting different characters through settings, colours, and emotions, but also push the boundaries beyond realistic identities and include supernatural/fantasy elements such as wings, glowing lights, magic, horns, etc.
I have chosen a photography book as it allows me to use my talents and interests towards photography and creating narratives. I also love design and will use the skills I have accumulated throughout my multi-media classes to create the book layout and overall composition of my project. Additionally, I will use my program’s creative writing skills as well as my past experiences in creating photo books. I will use my creative imagination for conceptualizing set designs, aesthetics, and other photography elements like light, composition, pattern, etc. This project allows me to explore and conceptualize the many stories that course through my mind, creating different worlds and identities through photography which have always fascinated me.
The book will be 20 pages including a cover, an introduction, and 7 stories, each taking two pages (1 spread). These photos will be a mix of portrait and still life, amounting to 2-3 pictures and one poem/reflection per layout. I will be using my Canon Rebel t6i digital camera and editing the pictures in photoshop. I will also create the digital layout of the book in Photoshop. I do not need to purchase any photography equipment as I own lights and studio equipment. I plan on mostly photographing my sister for portraits and maybe some friends, within Covid-safe regulations.
