The latest firmware and Audiomoth flash app will put the AudioMoth into uploader mode and flash the unit and is so much easier that it used to be.
BUT it is still possible to "brick" your AudioMoth hence the manual way of putting an AudioMoth into uploader mode is worth knowing.
If your AudioMoth has failed to update correctly and has all the properties of a brick - try this
If the firmware got corrupted the device is probably going straight to sleep as it can't find any firmware to run.
The way around this is to remove the batteries, hold the paperclip onto the contacts, and then plug in the USB cable - a third hand is useful here. That way the device powers up and should go straight into bootloader mode.
Now try to upload the firmware binary using the AudioMoth Flash App.
Note you need a bare metal paperclip and (I found this the hard way) new paperclips are coated with a lacquer and don't conduct electricity. So now my AudioMoth tool kit includes a piece of copper wire. And yes - I did "brick" an Audiomoth in 2022 and this recovery method got it into bootloader mode so I could flash it with new firmware
