Tier 3

The literature related to improving student attendance is very clear that the most promising outcomes occur with prevention and early intervention (Kearney, 2017; Wimmer, 2013).  As a result, it is essential that schools and districts interested in promoting attendance establish a School Attendance Team to develop systems, data and practices to support students across tiers.  Please refer to the Tier 1 page for additional resources related to proactive strategies.

Often teams will implement a variety of interventions to support individual students at the Tier 2/Tier 3 level.  However, the components of these interventions are not always recorded and evaluated.  As a result, it may be difficult to determine if students are making sufficient progress.

Preference Assessments

Regardless of what intervention is implemented for a student, if incentives are involved, it is important to identify potential rewards that the student values and is interested in earning.  The following resources may help guide practitioners to develop reward menus that increase the likelihood that students will respond to intervention.
