Color Guard

The Color Guard represents Atholton High School at many competitions, formations, parades, athletic events, civic activities and school activities. The Color Guard team consists of a Challenge Line, and Senior Line, and a Ceremony detail – both the Challenge Line and Senior Line compete against other JROTC programs. The Challenge Line is composed of LET 1 cadets while the Senior and Ceremony lines draw their cadets from experienced color members from previous years.

Drill Team

Drill Teams. The drill teams are composed of volunteers who excel in both marching and precision. They compete against other JROTC programs as well as perform at athletic events, school assemblies and other activities as requested throughout the year. There are two types of drill teams, armed and unarmed, each with approximately 20 cadets. The armed team conducts their drill while carrying/using the JROTC parade rifle while the unarmed team is unarmed. For each type of drill team, armed and unarmed, there is both a regulation and an exhibition squad. The regulation squads conduct their drill in accordance with the prescribed Army regulations, while the exhibition squads much less restricted in their authorized movements and performance. Cadets in all grades are encouraged to try out for one of the drill teams.

Raiders

Members of the Raider Team are selected from cadets who excel in physical fitness and military skills. They participate in military skills competitions against other JROTC programs throughout the year, including the Army Physical Fitness Test, one rope bridge, logistics relay, 5 kilometer team run, etc. Competitions are designed to test cadets’ physical and mental strength, and require exceptional teamwork. The composition of competition squads consist of 8-10 cadets, determined based upon cadet interest. On average, we look for three squads on the Raider Team. Cadets in all grades, both male and female, are encouraged to try out for the Raiders Team.

JROTC Leadership and Academic Bowl (JLAB) Team. The JLAB Team consists of two squads, an Academic squad and a Leadership squad, each with 4-6 cadets. The Academic Squad focuses on general high-school level information; the Leadership Squad focuses on information specifically from within the JROTC curriculum. Each squad is composed of cadets from grades 9-11 (no seniors) and cannot have crossover between squads.

Cyber Patriot

Cadets are encouraged to participate in CyberPatriot. CyberPatriot is computer-based training on cyber defense and cyber security. Cadets will compete in a premier national high school cyber defense competition that is designed to give hands on exposure to the foundations of cyber security, it is not a hacking competition. CyberPatriot's goal is to excite students about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education.
