We have been chasing “Wildcats” across Asia and Europe since 2021.
Why Wildcats?
It all started back in 2018 during a residency in South Korea. While staying in Gwangju, we had the chance to talk with Korean artists about folk tales and stories featuring tigers. In Korea, tigers have appeared in countless paintings and tales since ancient times. Throughout wide areas of Asia, tigers have long been woven into the fabric of daily life and culture, from kings to commoners.
That was when an idea struck us: Tiger → Cat = A brand-new modern fable is born! —Or could be!
Replacing tigers with cats strips away the heavy baggage and tropes placed on tigers, giving birth to entirely new, liberated meanings! Plus, they’re just plain cute!
And so, the concept for Project A fable of a fable began to take shape. At this point, we weren’t specifically focused on wildcats yet—they were just a “well, of course there are plenty of wild cats out there, too” kind of thought.
